Ruffa walked out from The Buzz after Kris' remark upset her. Last Sunday, March 7, The Buzz aired in its usual live telecast with its hosting triumvirate Boy Abunda, Ruffa Gutierrez and Kris Aquino. Kris Aquino would've wished she hadn't said much because what she was about to say as Ruffa's transfer to the rival network became the center of discussion and already a controversy per se, would sprout a newer controversy that will challenge Kris Aquino's character again and unfortunately, will question the capability of Noynoy Aquino, her brother and Philippine's 2010 presidential candidate, of becoming the country's rightful leader.
It all started when Ruffa Gutierrez's transfer from ABS-CBN's to another network (which was not actually named during the discussion) was raised after discussing the week's biggest controversies in the show's P.O.V segment. This is when Kris told Ruffa, "Aminin mo ibang level ang saya dito," which then became show business' hottest discussion about its different interpretations. It was caught on cam how Ruffa Gutierrez's facial expression changed after the statement has been said. Ruffa managed to answer, unable to hide from the look of her face that she was bugged, "Well, I know, you don't have to rub it in, Kris. Siyempre, I'm sad din, so sana huwag mo namang, you know, dagdagan (Of course, I’m also sad so you should not have, you know, added to it)." A few seconds before The Buzz went to commercial, Ruffa Gutierrez walked out from the platform and was reportedly to had resorted to the dressing room crying.
According to Gerry Plaza who wrote Yahoo's special for Southeast Asia for this controversy, Ruffa’s ever feisty mother Annabelle Rama suddenly appeared on “Showbiz Central.” As if it was on cue, Annabelle went on a rampage. As he quoted in his article:
Annabelle asked the whereabouts of Ruffa after her “walkout,” Annabelle said: “Pinapauwi ko na siya...dahil hindi ko na ma-take na every Sunday ay binabara siya lagi ni Kris, okay? Kaya lagi kami nag aaway ni Ruffa. Sabi ko, 'Bakit hindi ka lumalaban kay Kris? Sino ba siya? (I made her come home because I could not take that Kris always rebuffs her every Sunday. That’s why I always argue with Ruffa. I say, “Why don’t you fight back? Who is she anyway?)”
“Hindi maganda ginagawa ni Kris kay Ruffa, e. Hindi pa nga nananalo si Noynoy [Aquino, kapatid ni Kris] as presidente, e, ang yabang-yabang na niya! What more kung nanalo pa si Noynoy? E, di kawawa lahat ng artista, lalong-lalo na 'yong mga maliliit na nag-uumpisa pa lang. Hindi magtatagal. Si Ruffa every Sunday binabara niya. Ano, naiinggit ba siya kay Ruffa? (What Kris is doing to Ruffa is not good. Noynoy (Aquino, Kris’ brother) has not even won the presidency, she’s already so arrogant. What more if Noynoy wins? Pity our artists, especially those who are just starting in the industry. That won’t last long. She rebuffs Ruffa every Sunday. Is she envious of Ruffa?)"
Kris Aquino is known for her bubbly and talkative personality, which then attributed to her to be known as maarte by some. Kris is also known for her intelligence and that she always have something to say in every discussion, which at times may have over-shadowed Ruffa.
I also felt that what happened in Ruffa's last episode in the Buzz, was just Ruffa's low tolerance towards Kris until finally it went down to the critical level in that episode. It may have also been an ongoing irritability towards Kris which evidently may have contributed to how Annabelle kept on reminding Ruffa that she should no longer put up with Kris' treatment , which in reality have be non-existent as to what Annabelle believed and wanted Ruffa to believe.
I certainly can't find anything wrong about what Kris Aqunio said. What I can see is a friend who is trying to remind Ruffa that nonetheless, Ruffa should still remember how happy it is to be part of the show. I also feel that Ruffa does know better, and probably without her mother's bad-mouthing towards Kris, she would've not reacted that way. I can still see Ruffa's level-headedness in every discussion such as in that episode she did mention "Dahil siguro, with all the gulo, not super chikka chikka like before (Because maybe, after all the squabbles, chit-chats have grown limited unlike before), but everyone's civil to each other. Like I said, umiikot lang naman ang mundo sa show business. Today magkaaway kayo then tomorrow bestfriends kayo. (Like I said, the world in show business just goes in circle. Today you're enemies then tomorrow you're best of friends."
It's also not fair for both Kris and Noynoy that Noynoy's candidacy for presidency will be tested in the waters for a squabble totally out of the confines of politics and community service. It's a dirty game to drag other things into the mess, and that's what Annabelle showed if ever this is all a game. Being a mother that she is, she could've showed Ruffa a different kind of support, surely that will not mess things up and that will surely keep her daughter's intelligence as well. Ruffa's statement about being enemies then later best friends for the next day would've been achieved if her mother did not keep on influencing Ruffa about what to think about Kris.
In our daily lives, sometimes as viewers, we must have a deeper view of human psychology and sociology too, to draw ourselves away from poor judgment of a person or situation.
You can also choose who would you like to be; Kris Aquino, whose strong personality, both fragile and intelligent, attracts ambivalence; Ruffa Gutierrez, intelligent and beautiful in her own rite, yet vulnerable from her mother's negative perspective towards people and situation; or Annabelle, whose feisty character, which is superficially strong yet crumbled down in ignorance and dim-wittedness.
